The diet of a sloth consists mostly of buds, tender shoots, and leaves. In the photo above, the sloth, aptly named 'Jim,' is eating a leaf. Sloths may also eat insects, small lizards, and the carcasses of dead animals (carrion).
What you are about to see is very dangerous for sloths! More sloths are killed on roads than anywhere else (see: trees, water (rarely)). If you ever see a sloth on a road, you should help it. Pretend you are a crossing guard for slow children.
